From Curiosity to Civic Duty
November 2025
For a long time, I've been fascinated by how decisions are made, how to influence, and where one can make the most impact. A few years ago, as chance would have it, I undertook Pathways to Politics in Darwin. That experience and the incredible network it provides just keep leading to fantastic opportunities!
As Pathways to Politics marks 10 years, they have offered small-group day visits to Parliament House in Canberra for their national alum community. These sessions, generously hosted by Members of Parliament (MPs) and their staff from across the political spectrum, are designed to welcome alums into their offices and share insights into political life and leadership. A rare and valuable chance to connect directly with elected representatives and gain insight into the work of Federal Parliament.
Our session was generously hosted by Sally Sitou MP, the Labor Member for Reid and a Pathways to Politics alum herself, along with her staff, Labor MPs and staffers. They took turns to give us their insights and share their stories. It was an invaluable experience and a powerful demonstration of the network's commitment to supporting women considering public life.
If you are a Pathways to Politics alum, keep an eye out for future opportunities like this amazing visit.
I was also very lucky to be part of an advance screening of Annabel Crabb's new series, "Civic Duty."
It is clear, insightful, and brilliantly put together. I cannot wait to watch episode two now! My only comment is that I genuinely wish this had been put together years ago!
A definite highlight of the evening was having the pleasure of meeting the legendary Antony Green! We even had a great chat about the recent technology debacle concerning the last election.
Regardless of your background, make sure you tune in to "Civic Duty." It is a crucial piece of education for active citizenship.
